9. Moreton Island

The world’s third largest sand island lies only 58 km of Brisbane and close to Fraser Island. The nature is versatile providing numerous activities. Tourists can explore dense forests, rocky outcrops, old shipwrecks and of course pristine beaches. High dunes are perfect for sandboarding. 8. Tiwi Islands

Also known as the islands of smiles, Tiwi group is found 100 km north of Darwin. 90 percent of the population is Native Australians, who have settled here 7000 years ago. It is not easily accessed: you will need a permit and to arrange a tour with an Aboriginal guide. Two hours from Sydney, the volcanic island is a jewel of Eastern Australian coast. It is only 11 km long and 2 km wide.
